If you have ever tried to organise catering for a children's party, you know the struggle. Half the kids will not eat anything "fancy," the other half have different dietary needs, and you end up spending the whole party in the kitchen instead of watching the birthday child open presents. A fish and chip van solves all of these problems in one go.
Why Kids Love Fish and Chip Van Parties
There is something magical about a food van for children. The excitement of walking up to order, watching their food being cooked, and eating outdoors turns a meal into an experience. Here is why it works so well for kids' parties:
- It is food they actually eat – No picking at fancy canapés. Fish and chips, chicken nuggets, and sausages are the foods children genuinely love.
- It is an experience – The van itself is a talking point. Children love watching their food being prepared and the novelty never wears off.
- No kitchen cleanup – We bring the food, serve it, and take care of everything. You do not set foot in the kitchen.
- Outdoor-friendly – Perfect for garden parties, park events, and outdoor celebrations where conventional catering is difficult.

Kids Menu Options
Our menu has plenty of options that children love. Here are the most popular choices for kids' parties:
Top Picks for Under-10s
- Chicken nuggets & chips – The undisputed champion of kids' party food
- Sausage & chips – A classic that never fails
- Fishcake & chips – Great for younger children who want something milder
- Chips on their own – For the fussy eaters (there is always one)
For Older Kids & Teenagers
- Fish & chips – The full classic, perfect for hungry tweens and teens
- Cheeseburger – A crowd-pleaser for any age
- Vegan nuggets – For children with plant-based diets
All our fried food uses gluten-free batter as standard, so children with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity can eat the same food as everyone else — no separate orders, no feeling left out.
Planning Tips for Kids' Party Catering
Timing
For younger children (under 5s), plan serving time around their usual meal schedule — typically 12 noon or 5pm. For older children, the food can be more flexible. We usually recommend serving about an hour into the party, after the initial excitement has settled.
Portions
Children eat less than adults (obviously), and portion sizes can be adjusted. When you contact us, let us know the age range of children attending so we can advise on quantities and pricing.
Allergies & Dietary Needs
Let us know about any allergies or dietary requirements when you book. Our gluten-free batter covers one of the most common requirements, and we offer vegetarian and vegan alternatives. We take food safety seriously — we are 5-star hygiene rated.
Location
Our van is self-sufficient, so it works anywhere with vehicle access and a flat area of roughly 6m x 3m. Gardens, driveways, pub car parks, village halls, and park spaces all work well. We have served at kids' parties across Sussex — from Brighton gardens to farmyards near Lewes.

Party Theme Ideas
A fish and chip van pairs surprisingly well with creative party themes:
- Seaside party – Bunting, beach balls, and fish and chips — the classic British seaside experience in your garden
- British summer party – Cricket, Pimm's for the adults, and fish and chips for everyone
- Festival theme – Bunting, hay bales, face painting, and our van as the food stall
- Outdoor cinema – Fish and chips before the movie starts — a winning combination
